2020 Oates Ends Tempranillo
Our Tempranillo is a vibrant, ripe berry fruited wine with loads of fresh strawberry flavour. Harvested from the Tempranillo block Russ planted several years ago to try the new variety, further plantings have occured due to the popularity of this new variety with local winemakers grown in the Margaret River climate and soils. Harvested in the cool of the night to retain maximum fruit aromas and flavours the Tempranillo has a short, warm fermentation followed by pressing to conditioned french oak barriques for maturation for 9 months to ensure the oak does overwhelm the inherent fruitiness of the variety. Released ready to drink the Tempranillo is a fantastic match for grilled meats, pizza and Italian food.
Erin Larkin – Halliday Wine Companion 2022. 95 points. "Amaro, Italian mountain herbs, garden mint, and freshly diced fennel are the backdrop to purple violets and sweet cherry fruit on the nose. The fruit sweeps across the palate, leaving a trail of fresh summer raspberries in its wake. Pure, cleansing and quite alluring, the small component of seasoned American oak fleshes out the finish. Beautiful. Modern. Slinky. Fresh. Yes. "
Ray Jordan – The West Australian 5 Aug 21. 94 Points. “"Cath Oates' temps have already established a reputation and this one is probably the best. I love the bright, lively red fruits with raspberry and a little Turkish delight to, well, delight. But it still has structure and poise and there is plenty of structural support in there. Chalky tannins and a dab of oak spruce it up."
