Our Tempranillo is a vibrant, ripe berry fruited wine with loads of fresh strawberry flavour.  Harvested from the Tempranillo block Russ planted several years ago to try the new variety, further plantings have occured due to the popularity of this new variety with local winemakers grown in the Margaret River climate and soils.  Harvested in the cool of the night to retain maximum fruit aromas and flavours the Tempranillo has a short, warm fermentation followed by pressing to conditioned french oak barriqes for maturation for 9 months to ensure the oak does overwhelm the inherent fruitiness of the variety.  Released ready to drink the Tempranillo is a fantastic match for grilled meats, pizza and Italian food.

James Halliday - 2020 Halliday Wine Companion. 95 Points. “Night-havested, a short, warm ferment in open pots, hand-plunged, pressed before dryness to new French puncheons and used barriques for 9 months maturation. Bright crimson hue; a brilliant success, with delicious fresh red cherries, wild strawberries and fine strands of oak for both flavour and structure. Drink sooner than later.” Date Tasted 4/1/2019.

Ray Jordan - The West Australian Wine Guide 2019. 91/100  “Oates Ends is already establishing a reputation for the quality of the tempranillos, and this is another, albeit slightly lighter bodied, but still with deliciously appealing, friendly, easy-drinking palate.  Spicy with a fine thread of firmish tannins and a gentle hint of oak supporting the lively rasberry fruit flavours with a hint of savouriness.”

A cooler vintage that has produced a really classy, slightly savoury style. This will be a great match with food or just drink it by itself. Try it slightly chilled on a hot day. Cath Oates.
