2018 Oates Ends Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon displays the characteristics so typical of Wilagri vineyard, with highly aromatic mulberry and cassis aromas. On the palate the vibrant, crisp redcurrant and blackberry flavours are seamlessly wrapped in the fine, tight tannins with added complexity and body from lightly toasted French oak, well integrated from extended barrel maturation.
Erin Larkin – Halliday Wine Companion. 96 points. “Cath Oates' vineyard is in Wilyabrup, oft regarded as the heartland of Margaret River. The nose is savoury and spiced, laden with raspberry, Cherry Ripe, cassis and violets. The acidity exerts a taut mineral presence over the mouth: it swoops in and captures the soul. Fine, elegant cabernet; the perfect example of what sensitive winemaking, good vineyards and a brilliant vintage can do.” Drink by 2036.
Gourmet Traveller Wine Aug/Sep 2021. 4 stars. "(This wine) prompted a brief but enthusiastic note from Paterson. “A juicy, vibrant wine with great energy,” she said. “I like the snappy red fruit and the succulence. You could drink this now.” I agreed, liking its suppleness and fine tannins. The nose took a little time to open up to show both black and red berries, and more savoury flavours mingle on the palate."
