Our Tempranillo is a vibrant, ripe berry fruited wine with bold and robust structure and flavour.  Harvested from the Tempranillo block Russ planted several years ago to try the new variety, further plantings have occured due to the popularity of this new variety with local winemakers grown in the Margaret River climate and soils.  Harvested in the cool of the night to retain maximum fruit aromas and flavours the Tempranillo has a short, warm fermentation followed by pressing to conditioned french oak barriqes for maturation for 9 months to ensure the oak does overwhelm the inherent fruitiness of the variety.  Released ready to drink the Tempranillo is a fantastic match for grilled meats, pizza and Italian food.

Ray Jordan - The West Australian Oct 2017 "Oates Ends 2015 Tempranillo 92/100 points  - Cath Oates has hit the ground running with this variety.  It's medium bodied with slightly grainy, sinewy tannins delivering structure and poise. Rasberry and cherry notes with subtle savoury influence. It takes a little while to open up, so make sure you decant it and splash it around a bit."

Angus Hughson - WISH, Apr 2017"A cracking Australian Tempranillo with plump, juicy, dark cherry fruit beautifully matched by some tobacco, spice and earthy nuances well supported by quite ample tannins.  Long, compact and reserved it finishes with exceptional balance and will likely improve over the next decade."

Andrew Graham - Australian Wine Review, 23rd Feb 2017. "Margs Tempranillo eh? The few examples I’ve had can be tasty, Spends 9 months in older oak, though it has that Temp. tendency to look like it has seen more oak. Looks juicy too. Great purple colour. Lovely red berry fruit and fine dusty tannins to match. Again, surprisingly elegant despite the alcohol warmth. It’s not Rioja – a much more ‘medium’ wine to be in that mode – but this has flavour depth of squishy red berries that even taste like Tempranillo. Easy to like and well made. Best drinking: 2017-2028. 17.7/20, 92/100."

Lack of length of pallet but otherwise delicious and very easy to drink. Beautiful aroma and smooth in the pallet.
